A Good Wax Job.

A good weekend. I got about a full day in working at my newest bench, the low level and using my new task light. Both were exactly perfect and comfortable as I had imagined they would be. The shop was a little warm as Summer has settled into North Texas but nothing I haven't worked in before. I didn...b2ap3_thumbnail_DSC03033.jpg

I was doing some more wax carving today. The temperature was near 100 and the wax was a bit soft. It was kind of like carving soft... Read More

New Shop Light on Order

I purchased (ordered) this lighting fixture from Lighting Specialties. It is the Dazor Model 318A3DG classic style 3-tube fluorescent desk model. They have some modern looking versions at the same price but I like the retro style. I also like the made in USA Dazor slogan. Compared to the price of so...318A3DG Dazor

Amazon is offering this light for $228.00 in Grey but $299.50 in black. The low price may be a typo or a deal. The top of the ad s... Read More

Figuring on This (The Low Workbench)

I am in the process of designing and adding a lower level working surface to my main workbench. The main bench is 36.5 inches high and that is a great height to work at the bench while standing or sitting on a stool. I have noted it is also the perfect height for the back area of a jewelers' s...b2ap3_thumbnail_scan173.jpg

Pecan Wood

A coworker in my office cut down an old pecan tree on his property. There are lots of them around in this part of the country so pecan is not an endangered species. A lot of Texans like to use the wood for smoking barbeque as it imparts a nice flavor. Pecan is a first cousin species to hickor...b2ap3_thumbnail_pecan-1.jpg

Nice Pen Body

I am making another pen body here. The mighty Taig micro-lathe is a good pen making lathe. I have removed the tool rest and have completed the sanding and one coat of finish. Plenty power at 1/4 HP and you can see I am running about mid speed on the belt drive.  The turning is very easy to do. ...b2ap3_thumbnail_t-pen-1.jpg
