Lost Wax Model Making 

I need a separate category section just for wax model making. The term wax carving is a bit narrow as there is so much more involved in modeling with wax than carving. Wax modeling can be additive as well as subtractive. Both will be covered here.

A fair number of very talented people model only with wax. My first instructor is a wax artist who does most of her work directly with the wax. As a professional, she produces models for manufactures that use them to create wax injection duplicate masters to sell to casters. Wax is a very interesting medium that is seldom the final display art.

Wax injection duplication of the master model is another whole area to explore beyond one-off single piece art. But it all has to start with creating the initial wax master, the heart of lost wax casting. 

Working in wax is fairly removed for the metalsmith who only works directly with metal.  Creating in wax is an art skill unto itself. The casting with molten metal is a another skill set. The cast is not the last step as there is much actual metal work and finishing required after the cast which is a part of my interest in metalsmithing.
