Some Flasks in the Oven
I am finally done with rebuilding the store website and inventing the Taig CNC lathe. I am back to the other real fun stuff doing lost wax casting. It's been 56 days since I had the blow out with the bell casting.
I had to repair the vacuum table as I had melted some of the vinyl tubing under the table and plugged up he vacuum switch with molten brass. That's all fixed and the vacuum table seems to be working better than ever. I needed the vacuum table fixed so I could use it to remove the air from the investment. Tomorrow I need the vacuum to make the pours. Thank goodness the vacuum pump suffered no brass ingestion.
I am in the middle of the 14 hour burnout and it is about midnight. I'll be doing the casting in the morning. I hope this time I will have a few good parts to show. My kiln has an electronic temperature controller that I can program to operate in many steps. It will go into a hold temperature and I will be able to do the casting anytime in the morning.
I'll post a pix if it all comes out OK. It Did!
I call these the Kautz tags. Each is slightly over 1 Troy ounce. $17 at today's silver price. They are slightly different as I experimented with CNC carving. The one on the right is the second attempt.
