This is more of a rambling thought. I just published a post over in Shop Notes I called Swing Shift LW Casting. Don't click the link yet, you will loose this page. If you haven't read it, check it out (later).

What I am thinking about is the large number of special tools that I am accumulating in my persuit of happiness. It always seems I need just one, maybe two (three?) more things and I will have the tools that I need. Apparently that isn't true.

I see what is driving this ever growing collection. It is having the RIGHT tool for the job. It is like using a screwdriver to pry things, punch holes or chisel out some filler in a slot. The fact it is called a screwdriver is a clue it is not intended for those other duties. How many times do we tell people working with us to, "go get the RIGHT tool for that job."? I have told myself that many times. I still use the wrong tool for those tasks. Ha!

The core problem is always trying new specialized tasks. My lost wax pursuit has opened up a whole new requirement for the RIGHT tool. Example: The oven in the kitchen can't heat up to 2000 degrees. The RIGHT tool is a kiln. Go get a kiln.

It is the diversity of the work I like to do that is the root of the tool collection. I am not thinking at all that it is a problem that needs fixed. It is what it is. Until I settle down and concentrate on doing one job extremely well I will need the right tools for the new interest.

If my only work was to sweep floors, I would still be looking for the RiGHT broom to do the job.

I am blessed with the ability and the resources and the freedom to explore what interests me. The society in which I live permits this freedom. I do need to budget for the big stuff so it is not an instant decision of obtaining "what next" with unlimited resources. 

I will hit a quite spell for awhile.. I am running out of space :)
