Making a Twofer

The Celtic cross is a favorite item for my customers. I haven't invested in wax injection for duplication so I have to cut new masters for every new cast. This time I decided to make a twofer CAD file and cut two at a time. Run time was 2.5 hours with a 0.005" ball end mill in my Taig system.

There is some wax dust on this freshly cut pattern that easily brushed off with the tooth brush.

Wax injection is the defacto commercial process for making multiples rather than this process. It requires an investment in a pressure wax injection pot and rubber mold system, either vulcanizer or RTV. So the investment of time and money is an important step to making many duplicates. Once a wax injection mold is made it only takes a few seconds to make a new wax master.

Once I develop a product line of popular designs, I will have to go to master wax molds rather than this machine intensive onesie (or twofer) machine carving. But for now this gets me to where I need to be at this time.
