3 Buns in the Oven

I just put three flasks into the kiln. It's been preheated to 300 degrees (f) and the flasks will set in the kiln for three hours at this temperature. This is to permit as much of the wax as possible to liquefy and drain out. Sorta works OK.

Then the pan on the bottom is removed (it is there to catch the wax). Then the kiln will slowly rise to 1350 degrees and hold there for two hours. Then it cools back down to 800 degrees and I can hold it there until I am ready to make the casts.

Total time from this point to casting is about 12 hours (or more). So burn out is a long slow and very hot process. I love every step of the process!
