DELL Desktop Computer OptiPlex GX755

I just ordered another refurbished $100 computer. This one is a DELL Desktop Computer OptiPlex GX755 Core 2 Duo E7600 (3.06 GHz) 4 GB DDR2 160 GB HDD Intel HD Graphics Windows 10 Home.

There are a ton of these machines on the market. For my use, they make excellent CNC machine control front ends. I purchase the small form factor style so they don’t take up much space in the shop.

This latest acquisition is because my first machine front end computer has tested out to be too unstable to run LinuxCNC. There is a jitter test that should score 15,000 to 20,000 milliseconds and the old PC can exceed 90.000 to 100,000 milliseconds. The lower the number, the better, with !00,000 is totally unacceptable for Linux CNC

My other two shop computers both score between 10,000 to 15,000 and that is excellent. So, the computer I just ordered has the same hardware specifications as the two good machines. The old box has just got to go.

Not sure where it will go. It stills runs OK for normal computer duties but just not well enough for creating CNC step timings. With only 1GB of RAM, it is no powerhouse. I’ll stick on the back shelf somewhere
